Evidence-based early years intervention – Science and Technology Committee – House of Commons
The policy paper addresses key points from the Committee members’ meeting, including evidence-based early years interventions, the current state of research, the ACE framework used and the effectiveness of interventions. 118 intervention programmes were assessed. No intervention was classified as ineffective; 36 had not demonstrated effectiveness yet at that point; 39 had demonstrated short-term effectiveness, and six were classified as having strong evidence for long-term positive impact. Various concerns from organisations and services working with children exposed to ACEs were discussed. The call for more research on early years interventions was highlighted, and recommendations centred on addressing the key challenges in delivering early intervention services (e.g., funding availability to local authorities, monitoring the impact of interventions by collecting and analysing appropriate data and sharing this data between local authorities and partners) and a new national strategy was proposed.
