Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) An Evidence Review for Lambeth (Summary)
This policy report concerned an evidence review for the Lambeth Borough Council on ACEs (2019) following a broad partnership of a Task and Finish Force Group (including schools, police, youth offending service, public health, early help, voluntary and community organisations, community paediatrics, GPs, housing, CAMHS, midwifery, health visiting). Its aim centred on initiating multi-agency discussion of ACEs and investigating different approaches in preventing and reducing the impact of ACEs on children and young people in Lambeth borough. In total, 24 stakeholders were consulted and focus groups with mothers and young people were held on their views of trauma and ACEs, their understanding of the effects in later life and ACEs prevention and support. The consultation revealed more knowledge needs to be widely disseminated on the harmful effects of ACEs on health and well-being. Schools were perceived to have a critical role in building resilience in individuals and communities, and reductions in exclusions were linked to improving the well-being of individual pupils and the community.
