Psycho-Social Support Program – Migration Induced Trauma

Since 2001, the Ministry of National Education has implemented Psycho-Social Support Programs. In collaboration with UNICEF, these programs were revised and updated to reach more groups in 2017. As a result of this work, one preventive support book and six empowering support books were prepared. Each empowering support book elaborates on one kind of trauma, such as Natural Disaster, Death-Grief, Suicide, Sexual Abuse, Terror and Migration. The preventive support book includes theoretical information and trauma types activities.

In Migration Induced Trauma Book, such contents are included:
• Migration (Concepts, Types, Social Causes, Possible Problems faced by Migrants, Reasons for Migration in Turkey)
• Migration Induced Trauma (Reasons, Physical and Psychological Symptoms of Children and Teenagers)
• Prevention of Migration Trauma (Role of School Counselors and Social Support between Peers, Teacher and Family)
• Warm Up activities
• Preventive Activities
• Empowering Activities

The practical activities address a wide range of age groups, from early childhood to high school.
