Trauma Informed Schools Programme
The “Trauma-Informed Schools Program” was established in 2016 through a protocol between the MAYA Foundation and the National Ministry of Education (MoNE), aiming to turn schools into safe environments for traumatised children.
The Program, supported by Theirworld (https://theirworld.org/), was designed to improve the learning environments for traumatised children. Within the cooperation of the MAYA Foundation and MoNE, pilot studies were conducted in 2017-2018 to support school authorities in helping create safer and sustaining growing learning environments.
Training and supervision for teachers include implementing child protection procedures for school administration, coping strategies for peer bullying, and cultural cohesion methods to build social harmony have been offered, and 9396 students and 1302 teachers have been reached within the scope of the project.
In the PDF Report, the results of the pilot studies were summarised through possible solutions and recommendations to scale and implement Trauma Informed Schools Model with the obtained data. The report presents train the trainer aspect of the project and serves as an example and guide for whoever is working with Syrian and other refugee children.
